Powerful New Monsoon Spell Predicted for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Lahore: A fresh and powerful monsoon spell is expected to begin today across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala are likely to experience heavy rainfall as the fourth spell of the monsoon season continues.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that most districts in Punjab will receive rainfall today. This fourth spell of monsoon rains is predicted to persist until July 25 and is said to be relatively stronger than the previous ones.
Due to expected heavy rain in the upper catchment areas, the flow of water in rivers may rise significantly, raising concerns of potential flooding. Alerts have been issued for possible high flows in Punjab’s rivers and streams, particularly in the Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.
The PDMA spokesperson added that the Director General (DG) of PDMA has instructed all deputy commissioners to remain on the ground and ensure strict enforcement of Section 144 near rivers and streams. Punjab Police have also been directed to increase patrolling along riverbanks and flood-prone areas.
