PCB Introduces Changes in Selection Committee Following National Team’s Poor Performance in T20 World Cup 2024
Islamabad:In response to the disappointing performance of the national team in the T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated changes in the selection committee responsible for choosing players.
PCB has prepared a new formula for the selection committee, which will now include coaches and captains from both formats. Jason Gillespie, head coach of the national Test cricket team, and Grant Flower, head coach of the national ODI and T20 teams, have been included in the new selection committee. Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq will also join the committee.
According to sources, the captain of whichever format is playing will also be included in the selection committee.
It is notable that PCB had removed former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the national selection committee roles recently, which had led to various reactions from the former players.
On being removed from the roles, former captain Shahid Afridi commented, “I understand PCB’s decision. Players like Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan also captained, but none got as clear a chance as Babar Azam. Otherwise, as soon as the World Cup ended, the captain would be questioned first.”
He added, “I don’t agree with statements to increase pressure on selection committee members. How can one vote 6 out of 1? All records are available in meeting minutes.”
Later, in a detailed statement, Afridi said he was pleased to have served in a prominent role in PCB, except for success in the future of the Pakistan cricket team, and I always want to be loyal to Pakistan cricket.
Reaction of Abdul Razzaq on being removed from the national cricket team selection committee
In a statement, former cricketer Abdul Razzaq said that if everyone had equal powers in the selection committee, then how could one vote be heavy on the selection committee
