Former Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani Terms PECA Law as Black Law

Former Senate Chairman **Raza Rabbani** has termed the **PECA (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act)** law as a **black law**, calling it a threat to freedom of expression.

Speaking at the **Azadi Convention** in Karachi, Rabbani criticized the term “fake news,” stating that it remains unclear and could lead to an **expansion of PTA’s** (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) powers. He expressed concern that the law would be used to curb journalistic freedom and give undue authority to the state.

Rabbani further emphasized that attempts to stifle press freedom would ultimately weaken the state, calling such actions detrimental to democratic values and the rights of citizens.

His remarks have reignited debates about the PECA law and its implications for media freedom in Pakistan.
