Bangladesh Star All-Rounder Shakib Al Hasan Arrest Warrant Issued Over Bounced Cheques

Dhaka:The arrest warrant for Bangladesh’s star all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, has been issued following the bouncing of two bank cheques.

According to foreign media reports, the warrants were issued due to Shakib’s cheques being returned due to insufficient funds. The warrants were officially issued on Sunday by Ziauddin Rahman, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka.

The reports indicate that Shakib, in 2016, had established a crab farm in the Satkhira district of Bangladesh, which became inactive in 2021. The cheques in question were related to a loan the farm company had taken from the bank, but due to insufficient funds, the cheques bounced.

It was also revealed that in October 2024, Bangladesh Bank issued a legal notice regarding the bounced cheques. Subsequently, on December 24, a case was filed against Shakib and three other officials from his company.

The all-rounder has been living outside Bangladesh due to death threats following political unrest and his alleged association with the ruling Awami League. He is also named in a murder case related to the killing of a youth during anti-government protests last year.

Moreover, Shakib Al Hasan has been facing restrictions on his bowling action after it was reported as suspicious. As a result, he has been excluded from the Bangladesh squad for the Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

These developments have added to the mounting challenges for Shakib, both in his personal and professional life, as he navigates these legal and cricket-related issues.
