Morning Coffee Found to Be Most Beneficial for Health: Research

Coffee is widely regarded as the most popular beverage around the world, and it offers numerous health benefits. But did you know that the timing of when you consume coffee can have a significant impact on its health benefits?
According to a recent study conducted in the United States, drinking coffee in the morning is found to be the most beneficial for health compared to other times of the day.
The study, conducted by Tulane University, analyzed the effects of coffee consumption on 40,000 individuals. The research discovered that individuals who drank coffee in the morning had a 16% lower risk of early death from any cause compared to those who drank it later in the day. Furthermore, the risk of death from heart diseases, including heart attacks and strokes, was found to be 31% lower for those who consumed coffee in the morning.
However, the study also revealed that the benefits of coffee for heart health diminished when individuals consumed coffee throughout the day. Yet, the reduction in the risk of death from various diseases was not affected by consuming coffee at different times.
Researchers emphasized that the timing of coffee consumption plays a significant role in its health benefits. The study examined dietary habits of participants between 1999 and 2018, with 36% of them regularly drinking coffee in the morning, while 16% preferred it at other times of the day.
The results showed that drinking coffee in the morning significantly reduced the risk of early death, regardless of whether individuals consumed two to three cups or more throughout the day. Additionally, morning coffee was found to be particularly beneficial for heart health compared to drinking it in the evening, although the exact reason for this difference was not fully explained.
The researchers speculated that consuming coffee in the evening might disrupt the body’s internal clock and sleep cycle, leading to increased blood pressure and inflammation—factors that negatively impact heart health.
The findings of this study were published in the *European Heart Journal*. Prior to this, a study by Coimbra University in Portugal in December 2024 found that drinking coffee regularly could potentially increase life expectancy by 1.8 years. This research, which analyzed data from 50 previous studies, showed that daily coffee consumption reduces the risk of various diseases, including heart diseases, lung diseases, strokes, certain cancers, diabetes, dementia, and depression.
The study concluded that coffee is also beneficial for muscle health and immune function. These findings were published in the *Aging Research Reviews Journal*.
