Sania Saeed Criticizes Hania Aamir’s Repetitive Roles, Calls for More Challenging Characters

Islamabad:Renowned actress and host Sania Saeed recently shared her views on the current state of Pakistani drama, particularly commenting on the roles of actress Hania Aamir. In a podcast, she expressed her belief that Hania Aamir often plays the same type of character – the innocent girl who constantly cries – and feels that she deserves more diverse and challenging roles.

Sania Saeed acknowledged Hania Aamir’s talent and potential, praising her performance as Gul Meena in the drama *Sang Mah*, where she delivered a standout performance. Sania mentioned that the hard work Hania put into that role was evident, but she emphasized that if Hania continues to be cast in simple, one-dimensional roles, her talent will not be fully realized.

Sania further expressed that giving Hania Aamir a challenging role would push her to work harder and showcase her true potential. She also compared Hania’s career to that of other actresses like Sajal Aly and Yumna Zaidi, whom she praised for consistently choosing diverse and unique roles. Sania pointed out that while these actresses often take on different characters, Hania Aamir is frequently cast in similar roles.

The veteran actress also discussed how the selection of roles in dramas is crucial for the younger generation, who aspire to see varied and meaningful stories. However, she lamented that most roles being offered to young actors are repetitive, limiting their opportunities to experiment with different characters.

Additionally, Sania Saeed raised concerns about the commercialization of the drama industry, stating that dramas today are more focused on making money than addressing social issues or promoting meaningful narratives. She reflected on the golden era of Pakistani dramas in the 1990s, when the industry produced high-quality content that tackled taboo subjects, asked thought-provoking questions, and explored various perspectives. Sania believes that the decline in the quality of Pakistani dramas began around the year 2000, when the industry’s focus shifted to commercialization and profit-making.
