CM Balochistan Sardar Sarfaraz Bugti Calls for Consultation and Careful Review of Ship Breaking Yard Project in Gwadar
wadar (Qudrat Roznama)** – **Chief Minister of Balochistan**, **Mir Sardar Sarfaraz Bugti Balochistan**, has emphasized that before the implementation of any project, it is essential to take the local representatives and communities into confidence. He highlighted that proceeding with projects without addressing the concerns of local fishermen would be futile. Regarding the **Ship Breaking Yard project**, the Chief Minister directed the authorities to prepare a detailed report outlining the potential benefits and drawbacks for the local population, adding that a thorough review must be conducted to ensure that the project would not harm the community.
While speaking at a meeting in **Gwadar**, the Chief Minister underlined that the **Sarbandan coastal area**, where the proposed ship-breaking yard is to be established, must be given careful consideration, and the concerns of the local residents must be fully addressed. He stressed that the implementation of such projects without community consultation would be counterproductive.
The Chief Minister also took a firm stance on **illegal trawling** in the coastal regions of Balochistan, expressing his strong displeasure at its destructive impact on the region’s marine life. He warned that if illegal fishing practices continue, marine species could face extinction in the coming years. He assured that the provincial government would take stringent measures to curb illegal trawling.
During his visit, which included the **Chief Secretary of Balochistan** and local elected parliamentarians, the Chief Minister ordered the procurement of consultant services to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the project. This assessment would include the potential impact on local residents, particularly fishermen, and whether it would positively affect their livelihood.
The Chief Minister further stated, “Any decision made must be in the public interest. We will not take any steps that harm the local community. After thorough consultation with local parliamentarians, elders, and the general public, we will arrive at a well-informed, acceptable decision.”
He emphasized that the success of any development project, including the ship-breaking yard, would depend on ensuring that it does not disrupt the lives of the local people. He reassured the public that their welfare would be the top priority, and any development project must result in tangible benefits for them.
Regarding the issue of **illegal trawling**, the Chief Minister stressed that urgent action was required to protect Balochistan’s **marine biodiversity**. He warned that continued illegal fishing would devastate the region’s rich marine ecosystem, and he called for immediate enforcement of stricter regulations to preserve these vital resources for future generations.
