Just 5 Minutes of Daily Exercise Can Significantly Lower Blood Pressure and Reduce Heart Disease Risks
Islamabad:Medical experts have found that even small changes in daily routines, such as climbing stairs or cycling, can have a significant impact on lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart-related issues. According to recent research, just 5 minutes of exercise a day can play a crucial role in maintaining cardiovascular health.
A joint study conducted by University College London (UCL) and the University of Sydney collected data from 14,761 participants to assess how daily physical activity impacts blood pressure. The participants wore activity trackers to monitor their movements throughout the day and its effects on their blood pressure levels.
### *Impact of Small Lifestyle Changes on Blood Pressure*
The study found that in a typical day, participants spent approximately 7 hours sleeping, 10 hours sitting, 3 hours standing, 1 hour walking slowly, 1 hour walking briskly, and around 16 minutes engaging in activities that increased their heart rate, such as cycling or running.
The results revealed that small changes in routine, like a 10-minute brisk walk followed by 11 minutes of sitting, or 13 minutes of sleep after intense physical activity, can significantly reduce blood pressure. Some participants even spent just 5 minutes cycling, which proved effective in controlling their blood pressure.
### *Exercise Plays a Key Role in Lowering Blood Pressure*
According to Dr. Jubelogi, a researcher at University College London, the study highlighted the importance of exercise in lowering blood pressure. “Activities like climbing stairs or cycling for short durations can make a substantial difference in managing blood pressure levels,” he said.
Experts recommend incorporating even brief physical activities into daily routines to achieve lasting cardiovascular health benefits, emphasizing that consistency, even for just a few minutes a day, can yield significant results in the long run.
This research reinforces the importance of adopting an active lifestyle, and it serves as a simple yet effective approach to combating rising health issues like hypertension and heart disease.
