Government Pressured Barrister Gohar to Meet PTI Founder in Jail for Release: Aleema Khan

Lahore: Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, claimed that the government had pressured Barrister Gohar to meet her brother in jail with the promise of his release. In a media interaction in Lahore, Aleema Khan alleged that the government had asked Barrister Gohar to “sit in Sangjani,” which she interpreted as a move to ensure Imran Khan’s release.
She stated that the government’s stance changed as public protests grew. As people started to gather in large numbers, the government, feeling the pressure, summoned Barrister Gohar to facilitate the meeting. According to Aleema Khan, the government promised that Imran Khan would be released within 20 days.
She further demanded that the cases against Imran Khan be brought to trial, arguing that this would prevent unnecessary delays and save years of people’s lives. “We are not asking for bail; we want the trial of the May 9th cases to begin,” she added, emphasizing that starting the trial would allow the truth to come out.
Aleema Khan also pointed out that in multiple cases, the prosecution had no concrete evidence. She stated that in the case related to the Jinnah House attack, the prosecution was struggling to present a case, and police had no knowledge of the role played by the accused in the October 5th case.
The ongoing delay in the trials, she argued, was wasting valuable time and resources, and the government was likely to face embarrassment when the truth emerged.
