PM Shehbaz Calls for Greater Autonomy for FBR Under Reform Plan

ISLAMABAD:Following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s latest directives for the reform and restructuring of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the need to grant the institution full autonomy has been emphasized to improve the effectiveness of Pakistan’s tax system.
According to senior government sources, the objective of granting autonomy to the FBR is to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the tax system without interference based on personal preferences or favoritism.
The sources told *The News* on Friday that various tax reforms had been introduced over the past three decades, while detailed reports had also been prepared to improve the system.
Despite these efforts, the latest directives highlight the importance of institutional autonomy as part of the broader initiative to reform and restructure the FBR and enhance the overall performance of the tax administration.
