Khawaja Asif Fires 8 Questions at PTI and KP CM Sohail Afridi Over Terrorism Policy

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has posed eight pointed questions to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, challenging the party’s repeated claim that it was not allowed to formulate a policy against terrorism.

In a post on social media platform X, Asif said PTI had repeatedly claimed that it was prevented from making a policy to counter terrorism, and asked the party to answer eight basic questions regarding its record in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In his first question, the defence minister asked who had prevented PTI from formulating a counterterrorism policy when the party had remained in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 13 consecutive years and had also been in power at the federal level.

He also asked what policy obstacle had prevented the provincial government from implementing the National Action Plan and what had stopped it from convening meetings of the Apex Committee.

As his second question, Asif asked what government policy was needed for PTI to openly call terrorists “terrorists,” condemn militants entering Pakistan from Afghanistan and stand alongside the armed forces and people against attacks.

In his third question, the defence minister referred to recent drone attacks from Afghanistan in Kohat and asked why the KP government had not openly condemned the attacks. He questioned what policy had prevented the provincial government from doing so.

His fourth question concerned firing and infiltration from Afghan territory targeting Pakistani border posts and security personnel. Asif asked how many times the PTI-led provincial government had formally protested or condemned such violations by naming the Afghan regime and questioned what policy it had been waiting for.

In his fifth question, Asif asked Chief Minister Sohail Afridi what practical steps PTI governments had taken over the past 13 years to eliminate illegal economic activities allegedly fueling terrorism in the province, including extortion, smuggling and the trade in non-customs-paid vehicles.

Asif’s sixth question focused on the security forces fighting terrorism. He asked how many times the chief minister had visited security posts to express solidarity with personnel sacrificing their lives in the fight against terrorism.

He also asked how many times Afridi had visited the families and orphaned children of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa residents who had fallen victim to terrorism.

In his seventh question, the defence minister asked why the PTI allegedly sought to create controversy or confusion around the state’s clear narrative against terrorism. He questioned why the party did not refer to the militants as “Khawarij” and why it avoided explicitly condemning them by name.

As his eighth question, Asif alleged that the record of PTI’s 13-year rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa raised questions about corruption and the use of provincial resources.

He said PTI’s own national and provincial lawmakers had been making serious allegations against one another on social media involving the alleged misappropriation of billions of rupees.

The defence minister also referred to allegations made publicly by a woman member of the National Assembly regarding the alleged embezzlement of millions of rupees in party funds received from abroad, and said the party should first provide an explanation regarding those allegations.
