Rangers Deployment Extended in Islamabad and Punjab Ahead of PTI Long March

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has formally extended the deployment of Rangers in Islamabad and various districts of Punjab amid security concerns surrounding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.
According to media reports citing sources, the deployment of Rangers and other law enforcement personnel, which was previously scheduled to end on October 5, 2026, has been extended by 10 days. The personnel will now remain deployed until October 15, 2026.
Sources said the decision was taken in response to formal requests submitted by the Islamabad chief commissioner and the Punjab Home Department.
Rangers personnel deployed in the federal capital and various districts of Punjab will perform special security duties assigned by the Islamabad chief commissioner and the provincial government.
Their responsibilities will include maintaining law and order and carrying out security-related tasks in accordance with the directives of the relevant authorities.
The extension comes as authorities prepare security arrangements amid the anticipated PTI long march and heightened security concerns.
