16 Medicines Found Substandard or Counterfeit in Punjab
Lahore:Sixteen different medicines have been found to be substandard or counterfeit in Punjab, with authorities seizing suspected medicines from medical stores in various parts of the province, including Lahore.
During inspections and enforcement operations across Punjab, several medicines were confiscated. Reports from drug testing laboratories declared specific batches of multiple medicines as substandard, adulterated or counterfeit.
The affected medicines include drugs used to treat asthma and allergy symptoms, prevent blood clots, address vitamin B deficiency and neurological problems, as well as medicines prescribed for muscle spasms.
Laboratory testing also detected harmful chemicals above the permissible limit in some respiratory and cough syrups.
A lumpy skin disease vaccine used for animals and a medicine for various bacterial infections were also declared substandard or counterfeit.
Meanwhile, two batches of an injectable medicine used to treat inflammation and severe allergic reactions have been withheld pending further investigation.
Authorities have directed that the sale and use of the affected medicines be stopped immediately and advised relevant stakeholders to ensure that the identified products are removed from circulation.
