Two Policemen Martyred in Attack on Polio Team Security in Nushki

NUSHKI: Two police personnel deployed to provide security to a polio vaccination team were martyred when unidentified armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire in the Killi Jamalabad area of Nushki, Balochistan.

According to police sources, the two personnel, identified as Muhammad Yasir and Abdul Rauf, were performing security duty when they came under attack and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The attackers also reportedly snatched the official weapons of the martyred policemen before fleeing the area.

Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police and security forces reached the site, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Home Department Adviser Babar Yousafzai strongly condemned the attack on the personnel deployed for the protection of the polio team.

In a statement, Yousafzai attributed the attack to “Fitna al-Hindustan,” saying that the killing of two policemen while protecting a polio team was effectively an attack on the future of Balochistan’s children.

He said the elements involved in such attacks were enemies of peace and the future of children in the province and did not want peace, development and the elimination of diseases in Balochistan.

Yousafzai said polio was a dangerous disease that could cause permanent disability in children, while vaccination remained the most effective means of prevention.

He said those targeting polio teams were, in effect, attempting to deprive children of their right to a healthy and secure future. He added that polio workers were visiting households to protect children from the disease and ensuring their safety was a shared responsibility of the state and society.

The Home Department adviser said the children of Balochistan needed education, healthcare, peace and a bright future rather than terrorism and disease.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy future for children and said that terrorist elements would not be allowed to derail that objective.
