Jamaat-e-Islami, PTI Long Marches: Notices Issued Over Closure of Hotels in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court has admitted a petition challenging the indefinite closure of hotels, motels and guesthouses across the city in the wake of the long marches announced by Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan heard the petition and issued notices to the Home Department, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and City Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi.

The petition was filed by central traders’ association leader Ehtisham-ul-Haq, who argued that businesses were already facing severe difficulties and that the indefinite closure of hotels was unacceptable.

The petitioner requested the court to declare the indefinite closure of hotels, motels and rest houses illegal.

The petition further alleged that the administration and police were ordering the closure of hotels through verbal directives rather than formal written orders.

The court admitted the petition for hearing and adjourned further proceedings indefinitely.
