“Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Has Been the Guardian of Islam, the Constitution, and Democracy for a Century; The Motives Behind Targeting Ideological Forces Are Alarming” — Maulana Abdul Wasey
Quetta (Daily Qudrat): Provincial Amir of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Balochistan, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey, while talking to JUI workers at his residence in Islamabad, said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is not merely a political party but an ideological and intellectual movement that has been continuing the struggle for the protection of Islam, the Constitution, democracy, national sovereignty, and public rights for the past century. He said this war is not of today but is a continuation of a hundred-year struggle. The intellectual and political resistance that the British colonial powers faced in the subcontinent — today the heirs of that same struggle are present in the field against those forces and their ideological and political influences.
He said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam stands today with Pakistan’s constitutional, democratic, and national interests, and Majlis-e-Khatm-e-Nubuwwat and Wafaq-ul-Madaris are also playing their role for the country’s religious, constitutional, and national stability. Despite this, if these religious institutions, religious forces, and ideological parties continue to be targeted, then this situation gives rise to serious questions, and it becomes inevitable to ponder over the objectives and motives behind it.
He said that in the intellectual and political history of the Islamic world, from Sheikh-ul-Islam Maulana Mahmood Hasan to Mufti Mahmood and in the present era to JUI leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, there exists a bright intellectual and political tradition that provided an organized ideological foundation to the political consciousness of the Muslims of the subcontinent and carried out scholarly and political struggle to connect Islam’s collective, political, economic, and moral teachings with the requirements of the present age.
He said that the basic concept of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is that Islam is not merely a collection of rituals but a complete system of life, in which guidance exists for all spheres of life, including justice, society, economy, morality, politics, and governance. Therefore, by separating religion and state from each other, lasting justice, moral order, and true welfare cannot be established in society.
Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey said that the struggle of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is not for any individual, group, or temporary interest, but for the country’s constitutional stability, political participation, democratic continuity, and the basic rights of the people. “We believe the solution to national problems lies not in confrontation, revenge, and division, but in political dialogue, the constitutional path, and broader national consensus.”
Strongly condemning the explosion in Kohat, he termed it a heinous act and said that such incidents of terrorism are a moment of reflection for the entire nation. Due to the deteriorating law and order situation in some parts of the country and the weakening of government writ, the people are continuously suffering from insecurity, while both the state and the people are paying the price for poor governance, administrative weakness, and the law and order crisis. The situation becoming increasingly alarming day by day demands that governments, instead of limiting themselves to statements, ensure peace, the supremacy of the Constitution, and state writ through effective strategy, strong administrative measures, and serious consultation at the political and national level.
