Quetta Commissioner Orders Better Coordination for Afghan Refugee Repatriation
QUETTA:Quetta Division Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari has directed relevant institutions to further strengthen coordination to make the ongoing repatriation of Afghan refugees more effective.
The directives were issued during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Lashari to review administrative measures, progress and challenges related to the return of Afghan refugees and other foreign nationals. Officials from the district administration, police, FIA, NADRA, Home Department and other relevant institutions attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that around **800,000 Afghan refugees from across Balochistan have returned to Afghanistan**, while more than **350,000 Afghan refugees from Quetta** have returned through voluntary repatriation or administrative measures.
Officials further briefed the meeting that approximately **23,000 Afghan refugees are still present in Quetta**, and relevant authorities are continuing measures for their repatriation. Joint efforts involving the district administration, police, Frontier Corps and other institutions are underway.
The meeting also discussed the situation of Afghan nationals who return to Pakistan after being repatriated. It was decided that guidance would be sought from the Balochistan Home Department regarding the handling of such cases.
Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari directed all concerned institutions to improve coordination and ensure that the repatriation process is carried out in accordance with applicable laws and government policy. He further instructed officials to take action in accordance with the law and government directives in cases involving the re-entry of Afghan nationals after repatriation.
