IHC Restrains Harassment and Arrest of PTI Leaders Ahead of September 27 March
ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has restrained authorities from harassing or arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shoaib Shaheen, Malik Amir Ali and others ahead of the party’s planned September 27 long march.
The case was heard by Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas. Lawyers Shoaib Shaheen and Riasat Azad appeared before the court on behalf of Malik Amir Ali and other petitioners.
During the hearing, Shoaib Shaheen told the court that arrests and raids had allegedly resumed ahead of the planned long march. He claimed that raids were being conducted at the homes of PTI workers and alleged that money and household belongings were also taken during some searches.
Shaheen further alleged that his family was being harassed despite his own health problems. He claimed that women and children were also being taken away from homes during the alleged raids.
He told the court that he was prepared to submit affidavits and CCTV footage in support of the allegations. He requested the court to restrain the authorities from harassing or arresting PTI leaders and to fix the next hearing for the following week.
Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas remarked that the court could summon the SSP Operations to seek an explanation and issue appropriate directions.
The court subsequently summoned the SSP Operations, Islamabad, in person and restrained the authorities from harassing or arresting Shoaib Shaheen, Malik Amir Ali and other PTI leaders. The hearing was then adjourned.
The development comes as PTI prepares for its September 27 nationwide protest and long march. Separately, the IHC has directed provincial chief ministers to ensure that government resources and official machinery are not used for the planned protest.
