Pakistan Raises $3 Billion Through Eurobonds in Record Bond Transaction

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully raised $3 billion through the issuance of Eurobonds, marking the largest bond transaction in the country’s history, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb announced.

Addressing an event on tax reforms organized under the Asian Development Bank, the finance minister said the Eurobond issuance received an exceptionally strong response from international investors. He noted that Pakistan’s credit rating has been upgraded three times by global rating agencies since April 2025, reflecting growing confidence in the country among international financial institutions.

Muhammad Aurangzeb said the order book for the bonds was twice the targeted amount, with strong participation from investors in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. He said the response demonstrated that global investors had confidence not only in Pakistan’s current economic situation but also in its future prospects.

The finance minister said the $3 billion Eurobond issuance was not a temporary or unexpected decision but an important component of the government’s three-year medium-term Global Medium Term Note (GMTN) strategy.

He said Pakistan secured highly favorable pricing in the international market for the five-year and 10-year Eurobonds. The strategy is aimed at extending debt maturities in external financing and minimizing rollover risks.

Aurangzeb said the government would further diversify its external financing sources by issuing Sukuk, dollar-settled bonds and Panda bonds in the coming days.

Speaking about domestic tax reforms, the finance minister said the government was continuously expanding the country’s tax base and implementing comprehensive and fundamental reforms in the tax system.

He said the positive results of these reforms had led to a significant improvement in tax collection.
