New Rain System Enters Pakistan, Heavy Rain and Urban Flooding Feared

ISLAMABAD: A new weather system has entered Pakistan, bringing the possibility of rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across several parts of the country from today.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in upper regions and a risk of urban flooding in some cities.

According to the Met Department, a new westerly weather system has entered the country and is expected to influence weather conditions over the next several days. Rain is likely at scattered places in upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and upper catchment areas of rivers.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas are also expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Some areas may experience heavy downpours, increasing the risk of water accumulation in low-lying areas.

The weather system is expected to persist until September 6. Rain is also likely in river catchment areas, prompting relevant authorities to remain vigilant.

In urban areas, intense rainfall over a short period could lead to water accumulation on roads and in low-lying localities. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall and remain informed about the latest weather conditions.

People have also been urged to exercise caution around weak structures, signboards and electricity installations during strong winds and thunderstorms and to follow instructions issued by relevant authorities in case of an emergency.

The rainfall is also expected to reduce the intensity of the ongoing heat and bring relief from high temperatures. However, residents of areas likely to receive heavy rainfall have been advised to remain cautious due to the risk of urban flooding and other weather-related hazards.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly those in upper parts of the country, to closely monitor weather updates over the coming days.
