Pakistan Army to Assist Kuwait in Training and Border Defence Under New Agreement
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kuwait have signed the Protocol Agreement 2026 to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation, with the Pakistan Army set to provide assistance to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces in training, capacity building and border management.
A high-level Kuwaiti delegation, led by Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, visited the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi and held a meeting with Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
The meeting discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral defence relations and security cooperation, after which the two sides signed the new agreement.
The Protocol Agreement 2026 will expand the existing framework of military cooperation established under the 2023 Defence Cooperation Agreement. Under the new arrangement, the Pakistan Army will provide training and capacity-building support to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, assist in border management and cooperate in other mutually agreed areas of defence.
Pakistan and Kuwait described the agreement as a reflection of the deep trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests between the two brotherly countries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their defence partnership.
The two countries also agreed to enhance defence cooperation to promote mutual security, regional peace and stability.
Kuwaiti Delegation Visits GHQ
Earlier, the Kuwaiti delegation led by Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah visited General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces Lieutenant General Khaled Daraj Saad Al-Sheryan was also part of the delegation.
The meeting covered matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen institutional relations and expand defence cooperation.
The Kuwaiti delegation appreciated the professionalism and operational expertise of Pakistan’s armed forces and their contributions to regional peace and stability.
The visits and signing of the new agreement are expected to further strengthen the longstanding and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Kuwait and consolidate their defence partnership.
