‘The Drama Is About to Begin Again’: Iqrar-ul-Hassan Mocks Political Shifts

ISLAMABAD: Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan has sarcastically commented on Pakistan’s political landscape, saying that those once labelled “traitors” may soon be declared “patriots,” while those considered patriotic could potentially be branded traitors.

In a post on X, Iqrar-ul-Hassan said, “The drama is about to begin again. Those who were traitors are about to become patriots again. Those who were patriots may possibly become traitors.”

He sarcastically remarked that a “film” that had been running for 80 years was about to be telecast again.

In another post on X, he called on “simple” friends who believe that Pakistan’s courts are otherwise controlled by the military establishment, but that the decision to transfer PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital was independently made by the courts without any political deal.

In a post on X a day earlier, Iqrar-ul-Hassan criticized what he described as hypocrisy in political discourse. He questioned how individuals whose leader was allowed to receive treatment at foreign hospitals during Imran Khan’s government could now say they would challenge a decision allowing Imran Khan to receive treatment at a Pakistani hospital.

He also said his social media timeline was evidence that he had consistently spoken for Imran Khan’s health, safety and release, as well as for PTI leaders and workers including Yasmin Rashid, Umar Cheema, Chaudhry Ijaz, Mahmood Rashid, Falak and Sanam Javed and other political prisoners associated with the party.
