Iqrar-ul-Hassan Slams Critics Over Imran Khan’s Medical Treatment Decision
ISLAMABAD: Awam Raj Tehreek leader Iqrar-ul-Hassan has strongly criticized those opposing the decision to provide medical treatment to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at a hospital in Pakistan.
In a post on X, Iqrar said, “How shameless can these people be?” He alleged that leaders of those criticizing the decision had previously been allowed to seek treatment at hospitals abroad during Imran Khan’s government on the basis of what he described as fake medical reports.
He questioned their intention to challenge the decision allowing Imran Khan to receive treatment at a Pakistani hospital, saying that those who had benefited from similar arrangements in the past were now opposing the same facility for Imran Khan.
In another post, Iqrar said his social media timeline was evidence that he had consistently raised his voice for Imran Khan’s health, safety and release, as well as for Yasmin Rashid, Omar Cheema, Chaudhry Ijaz, Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, Falak and Sanam Javed and other PTI political prisoners.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Chief Commissioner has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s order directing the transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
In the petition, the Chief Commissioner maintained that the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978 contain a clear procedure for transferring a prisoner to a hospital, but the Supreme Court’s decision issued the previous day had overlooked these rules.
The petition argued that issuing an order contrary to Rule 197 of the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978 constituted a significant legal error on the record. It further stated that Article 10-A guarantees the right to a fair trial, while the order in the case was issued without notices being served on the parties concerned.
The petition also contended that the court had deferred serious legal questions regarding the maintainability of the petition and issued a unilateral interim order. It maintained that relief of a final nature could not be granted at the interim stage.
