PPL Announces Major Hydrocarbon Discovery in Sindh

KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a major discovery of hydrocarbons in the country, marking the first successful discovery of high-quality gas from a new hydrocarbon play along the coastal belt.

According to an official statement issued by PPL, the significant discovery was made at the Dolphin exploration well in the company-operated Sarani Block, located in Sindh’s Sujawal district.

The company said the discovery marks the first successful recovery of hydrocarbons from the historic Jurassic-age Chiltan Formation in the Lower Indus Basin.

PPL officials said the discovery has confirmed the presence of an active petroleum system in the region. The development is expected to open a new chapter for oil and gas exploration in the onshore swampy areas as well as adjoining shallow offshore extensions.

The company said the discovery could significantly support Pakistan’s efforts to address its energy challenges and expand domestic oil and gas exploration in the coming years.
