PM Shehbaz Meets President Zardari, Discusses Defence Pacts with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, Economic Situation
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari at the President House, where they discussed Pakistan’s defence agreements with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, the regional situation and economic difficulties faced by the public.
According to a statement issued by the President House, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Zardari on Independence Day during the meeting.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Senator Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan were also present.
The prime minister briefed the president on the historic trilateral peace agreement concluded among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in Makkah.
President Zardari expressed his best wishes for the effective implementation of the trilateral agreement, particularly in promoting defence cooperation, regional peace and stability, and the security of the Muslim Ummah.
The president appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir to transform the longstanding brotherly relations among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye into a stronger strategic partnership.
The meeting also reviewed internal and external affairs. The leadership paid tribute to the professional capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces and law-enforcement agencies in operations against terrorists belonging to “Fitna al-Hindustan” and “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
The participants reiterated their resolve to completely eliminate terrorism from the country.
President Zardari stressed the need for effective measures to provide relief to people facing economic difficulties amid the regional situation. He also called for ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and their availability to consumers at reasonable prices.
According to the statement, President Zardari expressed hope that Pakistan’s effective diplomatic efforts to promote regional and global peace would further strengthen the country’s position internationally and have positive effects on the national economy and the lives of the people.
