Pakistan Has Opportunity to Play Role in Islamic Unity, Iran-US Relations: President Zardari

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan has been given an opportunity to play a constructive role in promoting unity among Islamic countries and in improving relations between Iran and the United States.

Addressing the Victory Monument ceremony in Islamabad, President Zardari said Pakistan had been presented with an important opportunity by Allah Almighty to contribute to unity in the Muslim world and play a positive diplomatic role between Iran and the United States.

He said the United States had also recognised Pakistan’s role and had expressed appreciation for its efforts.

The president said the US leadership had repeatedly praised the role of Field Marshal Asim Munir. Referring to remarks by the US president, he said the American leader had mentioned the field marshal nearly 90 times and described him as his “best field marshal.”

However, Zardari emphasised that Field Marshal Asim Munir did not belong to any other country or leader, saying he was Pakistan’s Field Marshal.

According to President Zardari, Pakistan is currently in a position to play an important role in promoting unity in the Islamic world, diplomacy and relations between Iran and the United States amid the evolving global situation.

Speaking at the same Victory Monument ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that every single drop of Pakistan’s water was a red line for the country.

He warned that Pakistan would respond if India failed to mend its ways.

“I declare that every single drop of Pakistan’s water is our red line. If India does not come to the right path, we will respond,” the prime minister said.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that Pakistan wanted peace and urged others not to interpret its desire for peace as weakness.

He said Pakistan wanted to see the region and the world free from conflicts and disputes.
