Rabi-ul-Awwal Moon Not Sighted; 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal to Fall on August 26
ISLAMABAD: The crescent moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH was not sighted on Thursday, meaning the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal will be observed across Pakistan on Saturday, August 15, while 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal will fall on Wednesday, August 26.
The announcement was made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad after a meeting held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad.
Addressing the meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed that the Rabi-ul-Awwal crescent had not been sighted anywhere in the country.
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had earlier predicted that the chances of sighting the moon on August 13 were very low, as the moon would be approximately 20 hours and 53 minutes old at sunset.
SUPARCO had indicated that the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal was likely to fall on Saturday. However, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is the authorized body responsible for making the official announcement regarding moon sighting.
