Around 500,000 People Registered for PTI Long March, Claims Hamid Mir

Islamabad: Senior journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir has claimed that around 500,000 people have so far registered online to participate in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.
According to Hamid Mir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced the call for the long march, while PTI has started registering workers and supporters across all four provinces.
Speaking about the political situation, Mir said Punjab had recorded the highest number of online registrations for the planned long march. He added that PTI was mobilizing its workers and supporters across the country for the protest movement.
Government Open to Talks With PTI
Hamid Mir further claimed that the government was willing to hold talks with PTI and that a meeting between the PTI leadership and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif could take place after August 14.

He said some federal ministers were also contacting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi regarding negotiations, while political contacts with PTI were continuing through different channels.
Mir also claimed that the Pakistan Peoples Party had contacted PTI and allegedly proposed bringing a no-confidence motion against the incumbent government. However, he said PTI did not trust the PPP.
New Provinces Could Shape Political Alliances
According to Hamid Mir, differences over the issue of new provinces could also influence political developments. He said some circles within the PML-N believed that the PPP was opposing the creation of new provinces, while PTI and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman were in favour of establishing new provincial units.
He said this could create an opportunity for contacts between the PML-N and PTI, particularly over cooperation on the issue of new provinces.
Mir said the PML-N might also seek dialogue with PTI to politically counter the PPP and make progress on the issue of access to PTI founder Imran Khan.

However, he noted that the government alone could not decide on granting access to Imran Khan and that other relevant quarters would also have an important role in the matter.
Political Situation Remains Fluid
The senior journalist said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari could potentially seek PTI’s support for a no-confidence motion against the prime minister to express dissatisfaction with the PML-N over the results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
At the same time, he said the PML-N was interested in contacting PTI to secure its support on the issue of new provinces and to politically counter the PPP.
Mir said the political situation and contacts between the parties would become clearer in the coming days, while it remained to be seen whether any practical progress would be made regarding negotiations and access to Imran Khan.
