High-Level Judicial Inquiry Demanded into Gidar Surab Incident: Asghar Khan Achakzai

Quetta: Awami National Party (ANP) Balochistan President Asghar Khan Achakzai has expressed deep concern and sorrow over the bombing in Gidar, Surab district, which reportedly resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of people, and demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident.

In a provincial statement, Achakzai said targeting innocent and unarmed civilians was unacceptable under any circumstances and was contrary to basic human rights, humanitarian values and the principle of civilian protection.

He said reports of casualties among children, women, elderly people and other innocent civilians in the tragic Gidar incident were deeply alarming. Protecting civilian populations from such incidents was the fundamental responsibility of the state and relevant institutions, he added.

Achakzai demanded an immediate, transparent and impartial judicial inquiry into the Gidar, Surab incident so that the facts could be brought before the public, those responsible could be identified and justice provided to the affected families.

He said mere expressions of concern or condemnation were not enough, stressing that transparent and impartial investigations into such incidents were urgently required.

The ANP Balochistan president said his party had itself been a victim of extremism, terrorism and violence for decades. Party workers, leaders and political activists had made numerous sacrifices for peace, democracy, constitutional supremacy and political struggle, he said.

He maintained that terrorism and violence were condemnable regardless of who committed them. No incident could justify putting the lives of ordinary citizens at risk or causing the loss of innocent lives.

Achakzai said the primary objective of state policies and actions should be to protect citizens, maintain peace and order, and guarantee fundamental rights.

He noted that the people of Balochistan were already facing insecurity, uncertainty and numerous other challenges. Such incidents, he said, further increase fear and a sense of insecurity among the public.

He urged the government and state institutions to take effective measures to protect the lives and property of citizens, restore peace and rebuild public trust rather than allowing the situation to become more complicated.

The ANP reiterated its demand for an immediate, transparent and high-level judicial inquiry into the Gidar, Surab incident, saying the investigation was necessary to establish the facts and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Achakzai said protecting the lives and property of citizens was the state’s fundamental responsibility and that ensuring the rule of law and defending the basic human rights of every citizen should remain its top priority.

He reaffirmed that the ANP would continue its political struggle for peace, democracy, constitutional supremacy and human rights and would continue to condemn violence against innocent civilians by any side.
