Man Without Both Arms Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Stones at Police, Later Discharged by Court

Islamabad: Islamabad Police arrested a man accused of throwing stones and wielding sticks at police officers during a protest, despite the fact that he has no arms. He was later discharged from the case after the court physically examined him.
According to media reports, a case registered at Koral Police Station alleged that Latifullah Sadozai had pelted police officers with stones and attacked them with sticks during a protest on August 5. Police arrested him and obtained a three-day physical remand from the court.
When the accused was produced before Duty Magistrate Rizwanuddin for a further hearing, the case took an unusual turn. His lawyer, Sardar Maroof Advocate, told the court that his client had no arms and therefore the allegations that he had thrown stones at police officers and wielded sticks against them were questionable.
During the hearing, the court examined the accused’s arms and, after confirming his physical condition, discharged him from the case.
Speaking to the media, Latifullah Sadozai said he was returning to Talagang after the August 5 protest when police stopped his vehicle and conducted a search. He said he was arrested along with other people travelling in the vehicle.
He said he repeatedly told the police officers that he had no arms and could not have committed the acts alleged against him, but his explanation was ignored and he was placed on a three-day physical remand.
He said the court later examined his arms, after which he was discharged from the case.
