PPP Is a Political Blackmailer, PML-N Senator Alleges

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nasir Butt has accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of political blackmail, claiming that the party pressured the PML-N over the approval of the federal budget.

Speaking on Dawn News, Nasir Butt alleged that the PPP had repeatedly threatened that it would not allow the budget to be passed unless its demands were accepted.

He said the PPP should be grateful that the PML-N had “given” it the Gilgit-Baltistan election, claiming that the decision was made amid continuous political pressure from the PPP.

Butt said political parties could have cooperation and reconciliation on various issues, but no party should be allowed to force other parties into accepting decisions through pressure.

PML-N Says It Will Take Back Balochistan Government

Discussing the political situation in Balochistan, Nasir Butt claimed that the PPP government had completed its two-and-a-half-year term in the province and that the PML-N would now take back the Balochistan government.

He said the PML-N had helped the PPP form the provincial government and argued that, after completion of the agreed two-and-a-half-year period, the PPP should voluntarily step down on moral grounds.

Butt maintained that political agreements regarding the formation of governments and distribution of power should be honoured.

Exchange Over AJK Elections

During the programme, Nasir Butt also exchanged views with PPP leader Hassan Murtaza over the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Butt asked Murtaza whether the PPP had won the Kashmir elections. Murtaza replied that the PML-N had won the elections, but the result had turned out in its favour.

Butt responded that the PPP had been in government in Azad Kashmir for the past six months and controlled the administration there.

Murtaza, however, countered that the administration was controlled by the PML-N and claimed that when the election schedule was announced, the prime minister was removed from office.
