PTI Demands CCTV Footage of GHQ Incident, Calls for Judicial Commission

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the GHQ case and called for the CCTV footage of the incident to be made public so that the facts can be established.

Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the party wanted a judicial commission to investigate the incident and believed that the relevant CCTV footage should be released.

“We have the courage to call wrong wrong and right right,” he said, adding that PTI supported transparent investigations and the disclosure of facts in every matter.

Sheikh Waqas Akram also strongly reacted to claims made by a vlogger regarding PTI founder Imran Khan’s wellbeing. He said that if the vlogger himself admitted that the claims could not be verified, making such statements was inappropriate.

He said such reports had created concern among the public and stressed that Imran Khan must be given access to his family, lawyers and relevant people, describing it as his legal right.

The PTI information secretary said Imran Khan had played a role in bringing people from different provinces and ethnic groups closer together. He called for an end to what he described as alleged measures against the PTI founder, saying Imran Khan had the ability to help unite different segments of society and reduce political unrest.

Sheikh Waqas also questioned the role of the judiciary, saying a high court judge had the authority to initiate contempt proceedings against prison officials if court orders were not implemented.

“If judges have these powers, why are effective steps not being taken to ensure Imran Khan’s rights?” he asked.

He alleged that Imran Khan was being kept in isolation and was not being allowed to meet his family. He urged the judiciary to examine media reports, public concerns and the implementation of court orders concerning the PTI founder.

Addressing the Chief Justice, Sheikh Waqas said that if the superintendent of Adiala Jail was disregarding court orders, the matter should be taken up. He urged judges to recognise their constitutional authority and responsibility and take steps to protect Imran Khan’s legal rights.

He also raised concerns over reports about the possible appointment of individuals as judges despite alleged criminal records, questioning how such people could be appointed to the judiciary.

Sheikh Waqas said PTI rejected all forms of political interference and supported the independence and constitutional role of all state institutions, including the judiciary.

He added that PTI had not participated in the Azad Kashmir elections and claimed that subsequent developments had validated the party’s decision. He said PTI stood with the people of Kashmir and would continue to advocate for their rights.
