“Who Would Be Attracted to a Wife Who Smells of Ginger and Garlic?” Says Shahood Alvi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actor Shahood Alvi has sparked a fresh debate on social media after making remarks about married life, personal appearance and maintaining a husband’s interest in a relationship.
Speaking on a morning show, Alvi said that housewives often spend much of their time cooking, resulting in the smell of ginger and garlic, while husbands spend their working hours around women wearing perfume.
“If a wife smells of ginger and garlic, who would be attracted to her?” he remarked, suggesting that women should also pay attention to their appearance and presentation to maintain their husbands’ attention.
The actor advised women to prepare their husbands’ preferred meals before they return home and make an effort to dress and present themselves well.
During the discussion, Alvi also made a humorous remark about seeking help from a psychologist for marital problems, joking that a wife should not be sent to a psychologist in case “he runs away with her.”
Alvi further said that if a husband spends excessive time on his mobile phone, it should not be considered a positive sign.
Actress Laila Zuberi also shared her views during the programme, recalling that when she was a child, her mother used to apply lipstick before her father returned home, which she viewed as an effort made for her husband.
Actress Fahmida Awan also agreed that women could make some additional effort to present themselves well before their husbands returned home.
Discussing his own married life, Alvi said he had tried to teach his wife tasks such as paying bills, buying groceries and driving. However, he said jokingly that she had not learned these tasks and referred to her humorously as “a stubborn bone.”
He also recalled that actress Bushra Ansari had advised his wife against learning to drive, saying it could lead to additional responsibilities such as taking and picking up the children from school.
