Weekly Inflation Rises 0.28% as Prices of 20 Essential Items Increase: PBS Report

Islamabad: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its latest weekly inflation report, showing that weekly inflation increased by 0.28%, while the annual inflation rate stood at 9.29%. During the week, prices of 20 essential commodities increased, while only nine items recorded a decline.

According to the report, on a weekly basis, onion prices rose by 10.14%, followed by chicken (9.19%), gram pulse (2.43%), chili powder (1.01%), mustard oil (0.99%), tea (0.57%), and flour (0.52%).

On a year-on-year basis, tomatoes recorded the sharpest increase, with prices soaring 178.03%, followed by onions (84.65%), flour (80.02%), LPG (53.83%), diesel (34.44%), petrol (25.97%), chili powder (16.37%), mutton (16.12%), bananas (15.11%), beef (13.81%), and plain bread (9.37%).

Among items that became cheaper during the week, tomato prices declined by 6.82%, LPG fell by 1.90%, diesel by 1.66%, petrol by 0.63%, bananas by 1.20%, sugar by 0.51%, and plain bread by 0.29%.

On an annual basis, potatoes became 30.65% cheaper, followed by gram pulse (17.86%), sugar (17.60%), chicken (15.65%), powdered salt (14.09%), red lentils (13.02%), eggs (9.66%), and mung beans (6.25%), according to the PBS report.
