Security Heightened in Quetta Amid Terror Threat; Emergency Declared in Government Hospitals

QUETTA: Security has been significantly tightened across Quetta amid heightened terrorism concerns, with authorities increasing precautionary measures to deal with any potential emergency situation.

According to reports, containers and heavy trucks have been placed on several major roads across the provincial capital during the night, restricting access to key entry and exit points. The measures affect major arteries including Airport Road, Zarghoon Road, Double Road, Sariab Road, Brewery Road, Samanli Road, and Joint Road, while police patrols have also been intensified.

Sources said that a number of public and private schools located in key areas of Quetta are expected to remain closed from August 7 as a precaution. School administrations have reportedly informed parents of the closures.

Authorities are also considering the temporary suspension of mobile phone and data services as part of the security plan. Reports further indicate that the imposition of a curfew is under consideration, although no official announcement has been made.

According to health department officials, an emergency has been declared in government hospitals across Quetta and the rest of Balochistan. Leave for doctors, paramedics, and other medical staff has been cancelled to ensure readiness for any emergency.

Rescue services, including the Fire Brigade, Rescue 1122, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), have also been directed to remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any untoward incident.

Officials said the enhanced security measures have been taken as a precaution in view of the prevailing security situation.
