Mob Attacks Shakib Al Hasan’s Home with Petrol Bombs After Virtual Event with Sheikh Hasina

Dhaka:The ancestral home of former Bangladesh cricket captain **Shakib Al Hasan** was attacked by an angry mob that hurled petrol bombs and vandalized the property, police said.

According to authorities, the attack took place on **Wednesday** in **Magura**, a town about **170 kilometers southwest of Dhaka**. The assailants set fire to the upper floor of the house after throwing petrol bombs and smashing windows.

Police confirmed that no one was inside the residence at the time of the attack, and no casualties were reported.

The incident came just hours after Shakib participated in an online event hosted by the **Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia** in **New Delhi**, where former Bangladeshi Prime Minister **Sheikh Hasina** addressed the media virtually for the first time since being removed from power in 2024.

During the virtual event, Sheikh Hasina announced her intention to return to Bangladesh in **December**. Shakib Al Hasan also took part in the program remotely.

The event marked Sheikh Hasina’s first public interaction with the media since leaving Bangladesh following her removal from office in 2024, coinciding with the second anniversary of her ouster.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Sheikh Hasina’s media appearance, calling it an affront to the country’s sovereignty. The ministry also warned that allowing her to address the media from India could adversely affect bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.
