Natural Sugar May Contribute to Cancer Spread, New Study Suggests

Islamabad: A new scientific study has suggested that fructose, a naturally occurring sugar found in many foods, may play a role in the spread of certain types of cancer within the body.

According to research published in the journal Nature Aging, cancer cells that survive chemotherapy do not remain inactive. Instead, they may release fructose, which can stimulate other cancer cells and enable them to migrate from their original location to other parts of the body.

Researchers also noted that excessive consumption of sweetened processed beverages and high-fructose syrups may increase the risk of cancer spread, even in individuals who are not undergoing chemotherapy.

The study found that fructose can trigger changes within cancer cells that make it easier for them to move and potentially form tumors in other organs.

The research focused on ovarian cancer, but scientists believe similar mechanisms may also be involved in the spread of pancreatic, colorectal, and liver cancers.

The researchers emphasized that additional studies are needed to confirm these findings and determine how they may influence future cancer treatments and dietary recommendations.

Note: The findings are based on a scientific study and are intended for informational purposes only. Individuals should consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical advice regarding cancer prevention, treatment, or dietary decisions.
