IESCO Recovers Over Rs7 Billion in Crackdown Against Power Theft and Defaulters
Islamabad: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has recovered more than Rs7 billion in outstanding dues during an ongoing crackdown against electricity theft and defaulting consumers, launched on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to officials, the operation is being carried out under the guidance of the Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, with continued efforts to curb power theft and improve bill recovery across the IESCO region.
IESCO Chief Executive Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood said that since September 2023, the company has imposed fines totaling more than Rs609.1 million on 7,073 electricity thieves.
He added that police have arrested 3,299 individuals involved in electricity theft, while more than 232,000 consumers have paid their outstanding dues, resulting in recoveries exceeding Rs7 billion.
The IESCO chief said the company is implementing a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft and defaulters under the supervision of IESCO Chairman Dr. Tahir Masood, the board of directors, and the management.
He noted that IESCO has established itself as one of Pakistan’s leading power distribution companies through effective teamwork and strong operational performance.
To further strengthen anti-theft measures, Mehmood said the installation of more than 1.2 million Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters has been completed, while the installation of scanning meters on distribution transformers is also progressing rapidly.
