Death toll rises to 8 as more bodies recovered from Broad Peak avalanche

SKARDU: The death toll from the deadly avalanche on Broad Peak has risen to eight after the bodies of four more missing climbers were recovered during ongoing search operations in Gilgit-Baltistan.

As per the officials, three out of the four bodies that were recovered on Tuesday morning have been transported via helicopters to Skardu, whereas search and rescue efforts are still being carried out to locate the other two missing climbers of the 8,047-meter-high peak.

Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Minister Neknam Karim stated that all possible means are being employed to locate the missing climbers, and further explained that logistics for rescue teams are provided by the tourism department in this rugged area.

Broad Peak, the twelfth-highest mountain in the world, belongs to the Karakoram Range and is one of the most difficult climbing spots in Pakistan.

The avalanche hit the mountain during the climbing season and led to a major rescue mission.
