10 Policemen, Including DSP, Martyred in Heavy Terrorist Attack in Hangu; 15 Militants Killed in Counter-Operation

HANGU: At least 10 police personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Diyar Khan, were martyred and 28 others injured after heavily armed terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij attacked the Khazina Banda Police Check Post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district on Wednesday. Fifteen attackers were killed during a subsequent counter-operation, according to police officials.

The terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the police post using heavy weapons. Officers stationed at the check post immediately retaliated and called for reinforcements. However, the militants had already laid an ambush along the route and attacked the responding police contingent, severely damaging the lead armored vehicle.

Despite intense gunfire and difficult battlefield conditions, police personnel displayed extraordinary courage and professionalism while engaging the attackers. During the fierce exchange of fire, DSP Diyar Khan embraced martyrdom along with nine other police officials, while 28 personnel, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, sustained injuries. The wounded were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Security forces and police launched a joint counter-operation following the attack, killing 15 terrorists and reportedly injuring several others.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, confirmed the incident and said an immediate response operation was carried out after the attack on the Khazina Check Post, inflicting heavy losses on the militants.

He paid tribute to the fallen officers, stating that DSP Diyar Khan fought with exceptional bravery until his martyrdom. He added that the injured personnel, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, are being provided with the best possible medical care.

The IGP praised the sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, saying the force stood like a rock against the enemy under extremely challenging circumstances and set a new example of courage through their supreme sacrifice. He announced that the department would recommend the highest honors for all the martyrs and that he would personally meet the bereaved families to offer condolences and visit the injured officers.
