Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Demands Re-Polling Under Army Supervision in AJK’s LA-12 Constituency

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has demanded immediate action by the Election Commission over alleged electoral irregularities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s LA-12 Charhoi constituency.
In a statement, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf alleged that PPP polling agents were forcibly expelled from several polling stations, while complaints of armed individuals influencing the electoral process and alleged bogus voting have also surfaced. He described the allegations as highly serious and urged authorities to conduct a transparent investigation.
He called on the Election Commission to immediately withhold the results of the disputed polling stations in LA-12 and ensure a fair and impartial inquiry into the complaints.
The former prime minister further demanded that re-polling be conducted at the affected polling stations under the supervision of the Pakistan Army after the completion of the investigation to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf emphasized that free, fair, and transparent elections are a fundamental democratic right of every candidate and voter, adding that any attempt to undermine the public mandate would not be accepted.
He also urged the Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Kashmir to take immediate notice of the complaints, provide all candidates with an equal electoral environment, and refrain from announcing the final results of the constituency until the re-polling process has been completed.
