Anam Uzair Wins Pakistan’s First 100km Galiyat Mountain Trail Ultra Marathon
ISLAMABAD:** Pakistani mountaineer and trail runner **Anam Uzair** has achieved another major milestone by winning Pakistan’s first-ever **100-kilometre Galiyat Mountain Trail Ultra Marathon**, conquering one of the country’s toughest endurance challenges.
The race featured rugged mountain terrain, dense forests, and natural obstacles, along with the constant risk posed by wildlife. Despite the demanding conditions, Uzair delivered an outstanding performance to secure victory.
Speaking to **Geo News**, Uzair dedicated her achievement to all women in Pakistan, especially female runners. She said she hopes her success will inspire more women to pursue endurance sports and vowed to take on even greater challenges to represent Pakistan on the international stage.
“This was not an easy task. I knew the kind of challenges I would face,” she said, explaining that the race involved risks ranging from lightning strikes to encounters with wild animals. While mountaineering carries dangers such as avalanches and severe weather, she noted that wildlife posed the greatest threat during the ultra marathon.
Recalling one of her training runs, Uzair said she once spotted a leopard sitting about 200 feet from her trail during a 40-kilometre practice session. She said the experience gradually helped her overcome fear and strengthened her determination to complete the race.
Uzair emphasized that mountaineering and mountain trail running are two distinct disciplines with different challenges and should not be compared. She added that trail running requires less time, allowing her to balance her athletic pursuits with family responsibilities.
She also stressed the importance of maintaining year-round fitness.
“I train every day. Fitness should be a lifestyle, whether or not you’re preparing for a competition,” she said, adding that she regularly climbs as many as 100 floors to stay in peak physical condition.
Looking ahead, Uzair revealed that she has already set her sights on another demanding challenge, which she hopes to complete in the future while proudly representing Pakistan.
