Iqrar Ul Hassan Urges Youth to Seek Political Reform, Criticizes Dynastic Politics

Lahore: Awam Raj Party chief Iqrar Ul Hassan has called for political reforms in Pakistan, criticizing what he described as “political dictators” and urging young people to demand merit-based leadership within political parties.

In a series of posts on X, Iqrar Ul Hassan responded to a question about opposing the military, saying that violence or seeking foreign assistance was not the solution. He referred to militant groups and armed movements as examples of approaches he rejected, arguing instead that the focus should be on holding political leaders accountable.

He claimed that political leaders who repeatedly collaborate with military rulers should first be challenged, stating that meaningful change begins by reforming political parties and their leadership.

In a separate video message, Iqrar Ul Hassan said children from ordinary and low-income families would only have an opportunity to become national leaders when political parties end hereditary control and allow leadership to emerge through merit. He pledged that he would never seek any party or government office, saying the Awam Raj Party would belong to ordinary citizens and that middle-class Pakistanis should have the opportunity to become party chairman and even prime minister.

In another post, he encouraged Pakistan’s Generation Z to focus on securing their own political rights instead of supporting the power struggles of established political leaders. He urged young people to demand internal party elections, merit-based promotion within political parties, the restoration of student unions, and stronger local government systems to enable grassroots political participation.
