Sher Afzal Marwat Says Imran Khan Was Misrepresented, Recalls Jail Meetings
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Khan Marwat has claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was unfairly portrayed as a “playboy” and a drug addict, saying his personal observations during prison visits presented a very different picture.
Speaking on a podcast, Marwat said he developed a close working relationship with Imran Khan in 2022 after being invited to Bani Gala to assist with criminal cases being filed against him. He noted that he had an extensive legal practice in Islamabad, handling criminal, cybercrime, terrorism, narcotics, rape, and land-grabbing cases.
Marwat said that during Ramadan he also began offering political advice, and at one stage became one of Imran Khan’s close confidants. He added that one of Khan’s weaknesses is that he tends to trust people too quickly.

Recalling his meetings with Imran Khan in Attock and Adiala jails, Marwat said the PTI founder requested a prayer mat and a copy of the Holy Quran during a meeting at Attock Jail. He further claimed that fellow inmates told him Khan regularly offered Tahajjud (late-night) prayers and spent time reciting the Holy Quran.
Marwat also rejected longstanding allegations of drug use against the former prime minister, saying many people had expected Khan to demand narcotics while in prison, but according to him, no such behavior was observed. He described those allegations as baseless.
