Provincial Government Has Failed to Maintain Law and Order and Must Resign, Says Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party After Mastung Attack

QUETTA: The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the National Highway in Mastung that claimed the lives of Sessions Judge Abdul Hakeem Kakar and his security guard, Muhammad Zaman, and left Additional Sessions Judge Tariq Lashari and others seriously injured. The party termed the incident a grave attack on the judiciary and society at large and demanded the immediate resignation of the provincial government over its alleged failure to maintain law and order.

In a statement issued by its provincial secretariat, the party expressed profound grief over the martyrdom of Sessions Judge Abdul Hakeem Kakar, a resident of Toba Kakari, and his security guard. It extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack.

The party stated that the continuing incidents of bloodshed, targeted killings, and attacks on travelers, government officials, and civilians across Mastung, Khad Kocha, Mangochar, Khuzdar, Ziarat, Hanna Urak, and other parts of southern Pashtunkhwa are undeniable evidence that the provincial government has completely failed to ensure peace and security in the province.

Expressing serious concern, PkNAP noted that despite the heavy deployment of Frontier Corps personnel, police forces, numerous security checkpoints, and extensive security powers granted to state institutions in these areas, terrorists continue to carry out attacks openly. It questioned how assailants were able to target respected judges, government officials, and innocent citizens on national highways and escape with ease, describing the situation as a serious indictment of the performance of institutions responsible for maintaining law and order, particularly the Frontier Corps.

The party further asked what purpose such elaborate security arrangements serve if the lives and property of the people cannot be protected. It maintained that the recent wave of terrorist attacks demonstrates that the government’s writ has effectively collapsed, leaving citizens to live in an atmosphere of fear, insecurity, and uncertainty while the government remains confined to issuing statements.

According to the statement, the provincial government’s failure to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities has left it with no moral, political, or constitutional justification to remain in power. The party asserted that the continuation of the present government under such circumstances amounts to a disservice to the public and a dishonor to the sacrifices of the martyrs.

The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party demanded an independent, transparent, and impartial judicial inquiry into the Mastung attack and all recent incidents of terrorism. It called for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible and their facilitators, as well as comprehensive accountability of the institutions tasked with maintaining law and order to determine responsibility for the repeated security failures.

The statement concluded with a warning that if the government and relevant institutions continue to fail in fulfilling their constitutional obligations, public patience may be exhausted. The party pledged to join hands with other democratic and political forces to pursue every constitutional, democratic, and peaceful avenue to ensure public safety, restore peace, and secure accountability.
