Balochistan, Sindh Chief Ministers Discuss Water Shortage in Nasirabad Division

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti held a telephone conversation with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to discuss the ongoing water shortage affecting Nasirabad Division and explore measures for resolving inter-provincial water issues.

According to Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind, the call followed a meeting between Chief Minister Bugti and Mir Saleem Khan Khosa, the parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Balochistan Assembly.

During the meeting, Khosa briefed the chief minister on the severe shortage of irrigation water in the canals of Nasirabad Division and its adverse impact on agriculture and local farmers.

Following the discussion, Mir Sarfraz Bugti immediately contacted Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The two chief ministers discussed the prevailing water situation, inter-provincial water management, and the need for coordinated efforts to ensure the fair distribution of water resources.

The spokesperson said both leaders agreed to work together to address the issue and directed their respective provincial irrigation ministers to travel to Sukkur immediately for a meeting with relevant officials to assess the situation and develop practical solutions.

Members of the Balochistan Assembly from Nasirabad Division are also expected to participate in the Sukkur meeting, where proposals for addressing the current water shortage and developing long-term solutions will be discussed.

Shahid Rind stated that the Balochistan government remains committed to protecting the interests of farmers and securing the province’s rightful share of water. He added that close coordination with the Sindh government would continue to resolve water-related issues through mutual consultation and cooperation.
