Sindh Government Decides to Reopen University Road Mixed Traffic Lane Soon

KARACHI: The Sindh Government has decided to reopen the mixed traffic lane on University Road in Karachi at the earliest as construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project continues at an accelerated pace.

The decision was discussed during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to review the progress of the BRT Red Line project and ongoing construction activities.

The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, TransKarachi Chief Executive Officer Zubair Channa, project consultants, and senior officials from relevant departments. Participants were briefed in detail on construction progress across various sections of the project, the challenges being faced, and measures being taken for their timely resolution.

Officials informed the meeting that work on the project is progressing rapidly and that all concerned institutions are coordinating closely to expedite construction activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharjeel Inam Memon described the BRT Red Line as a transformative transport project for the people of Karachi. He emphasized that the timely completion of the project remains one of the Sindh Government’s top priorities and directed all relevant departments to fulfill their responsibilities effectively to ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe.

The senior minister stated that the Sindh Government is committed to providing citizens with better, safer, modern, and environmentally friendly transportation facilities. He added that the completion of the BRT Red Line will significantly enhance Karachi’s public transportation system and contribute to the development of a modern and sustainable urban transit network.

The government’s decision to reopen the mixed traffic lane on University Road is expected to provide relief to commuters affected by ongoing construction work while the project moves toward completion.
