Progress Made on PIA’s Acquisition of 16 Aircraft as Pakistan and Boeing Agree to Expedite Deal
WASHINGTON: Significant progress has been made in Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) plan to acquire 16 new aircraft after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met senior Boeing officials in Washington.
According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi visited Boeing’s headquarters in Washington and held a meeting with Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson. A delegation from PIA’s new management team also accompanied the minister during the discussions.
The meeting focused on exploring the best available options for the acquisition of 16 aircraft for PIA. Both sides agreed to work toward finalizing the most suitable deal at the earliest opportunity.
During the discussions, various procurement options were reviewed as part of efforts to modernize and expand PIA’s fleet. The proposed acquisition is expected to play an important role in strengthening the national carrier’s operational capabilities.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi thanked Brendan Nelson for assuring Pakistan of Boeing’s cooperation in facilitating the timely purchase of the aircraft.
Naqvi also appreciated Boeing’s leading role in the global aviation and aircraft manufacturing industry and expressed Pakistan’s interest in strengthening cooperation in the aviation sector.
The development marks a positive step forward in PIA’s fleet expansion plans, with both Pakistan and Boeing expressing their commitment to expediting the negotiations and concluding the agreement as soon as possible.
