Oil Companies Advisory Council Warns of Possible Petrol Shortage in Pakistan

Islamabad: The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has warned the government of a potential petrol shortage in Pakistan and called for immediate intervention to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.

According to the OCAC, Pakistan currently has approximately 370,000 metric tons of petrol in stock, which is sufficient for only 15 days of national consumption. The council said that delays in customs clearance are preventing imported petrol from reaching the domestic market.

The council cautioned that if customs processing continues to be delayed, several parts of the country could face shortages of petrol in the coming days.

OCAC also urged the government to immediately release Rs66.7 billion in outstanding claims owed to oil marketing companies, warning that the ongoing financial strain could significantly reduce their ability to import petroleum products.

The council called for the urgent customs clearance of imported petroleum shipments and requested emergency government measures to prevent disruptions in fuel supply.

It warned that failure to take immediate action could adversely affect the country’s fuel distribution network and lead to localized petrol shortages.
