PML-N’s Hina Parvez Butt Criticizes Fazlur Rehman Over Remarks on Security Personnel

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hina Parvez Butt has strongly criticized Fazlur Rehman over his recent remarks regarding Pakistan’s security personnel, saying the sacrifices of martyrs cannot be measured by their salaries.

In a post on X, Hina Parvez Butt said that the sacrifices made by martyrs in defense of the country and its people cannot be compensated through salaries, describing them as a national responsibility fulfilled by “the great soldiers of Allah.”

She further stated that “people like Fazlur Rehman are not even equal to the dust beneath the feet of the martyrs,” adding that such religious leaders confuse the nation instead of uniting it against extremist elements. She said Pakistan has already paid a heavy price in the form of thousands of precious lives.

Her comments came in response to a speech delivered by Fazlur Rehman at a public gathering in Kasur, where he said that security personnel are paid from taxpayers’ money to defend the country and therefore should not portray their sacrifices as a favor to the public.

Fazlur Rehman also said that if military officials wished to participate in politics, they should resign from service, contest elections, and let the public decide. He emphasized that every state institution, including the military, should operate within its constitutional limits.

The JUI-F chief further argued that soldiers are employed and paid to safeguard the country’s security, adding that while he had never received a government salary, he would not raise a private militia to fight armed groups, insisting that it remains the state’s constitutional responsibility to ensure national security.
